PUBLIC PROGRAMMING
SOUND AND VISION: CONVERSATIONS & SCREENINGS
A critical part of Paris Photo Los Angeles is the Sound and Vision public programming series, composed of The Conversations and The Screenings programs.
The Conversations, organized by independent curator Douglas Fogle, will offer visitors multiple intellectual perspectives on the use of images by bringing together notable curators and contemporary artists for a discussion of the practice of image-making. Taking place in Sherry Lansing Theatre, participants will include artists and curators: Walead Beshty, Simon Castets, Doryun Chong, Leigh Ledare, Stephen Shore, Taryn Simon, and Jeff Wall; among others to be announced.
The Screenings will be curated by independent curator Kevin Moore in partnership with FotoFocus, Cincinnati. The program pushes the boundaries between photography and moving image by offering visitors exposure to exceptional film and video work since the 1960s, with a special emphasis on film/video’s historic ties to art photography. Works will be screened continuously in a series of shipping containers placed on the Paramount Pictures Studios lot. The selection, offering a breadth of international perspectives, will include both contemporary artists and historical precedents: Slater Bradley, Bruce Conner, Moyra Davey, Rainer Ganahl, Rosalind Nashashibi, Nicolas Provost, Julian Rosefeldt; among others to be announced soon.
UNEDITED!: THE LAPD PHOTO ARCHIVE
This year, Paris Photo Los Angeles is happy to announce UNEDITED!, a new public exhibition program that will unveil unedited or rarely seen photographic material. This year’s edition will present The LAPD Photo Archive, with a carefully curated selection of unseen photographs dating as early as 1925 of the most famous police agency on earth.
