Among the countless objects conserved in the MuCEM’s collections, there are over four thousand nails, as well as objects that reappropriate this rudimentary and familiar tool in surprising ways. For the exhibition Le Clou, art critic and curator Damien Airault has designed a display that plays with the codes of museography and hanging of contemporary art to create a dialogue between some of these unexpected treasures and modern and contemporary works of art from public and private collections as well as those created specifically for this occasion. The quintessential symbol of the gesture of hanging, the nail becomes the tool of a poetic and unusual meditation on the manner in which exhibition transforms our way of seeing objects.
