Organized in collaboration with the Réunion des Musées Nationaux – Grand Palais, the LaM presents an important retrospective dedicated to the oeuvre of Amadeo Modigliani. The museum holds one of the best public collections in France of the celebrated Italian artist: 6 paintings, 8 drawings and a rare marble sculpture, brought together in this exhibition by Roger Dutilleul and Jean Masurel, founders of the Museum’s collection.
Roger Dutilleul crossed Modigliani’s path in 1918. Inspired by this meeting and by the exceptional collection, the LaM has orchestrated an exhibition-event that unites more than 120 works -- among which some 100 were created by Modigliani himself -- placed in dialogue with a selection of Non-Western artworks as well as pieces by his contemporaries and friends: Constantin Brancusi, Moïse Kisling, Jacques Lipchitz, Pablo Picasso and Chaïm Soutine among them.
