The LaM (Villeneuve d’Ascq, France) and the American Folk Art Museum (New York, United States) present this joint, two-part project on the structure of narratives in art brut. At the LaM, "Les refuges du récit" compares various types of autobiographies and fiction composed of invented languages. These stories, in which drawings are intertwined with words, create astonishing narratives that use all kinds of mediums, from paper to audio cassettes. A complementary selection of artists will be presented at the American Folk Art Museum from 20 January to 27 May 2018 in "Vestiges", in which unpublished manuscripts, codified texts, serial works, and private journals are explored from the viewpoint of the unique structures that compose them—notably, their sequential and developing aspects.
