Philippe Mohlitz chose Bordeaux to reside and realize his work. Born in 1914, a pupil of Jean Delpech (Grand Prix de Rome in engraving in 1948), Mohlitz is now recognized as a master of engraving with a burin. His visionary and phantasmagorical inspiration makes him an heir to Rodolphe Bresdin. After more than forty years of creation, a part of mystery always remains around his work.
Joining for the second year in a row at the National Stamp Festival ( May 26, 2018), the Musée des Beaux-Arts (Fine Arts) of Bordeaux offers a black and white immersion in the very personal space of Mohlitz.
The exhibition is made up of engravings belonging mainly to the museum's collections, including an important collection of forty plates recently donated by the artist: precise and richly detailed works, like so many windows opening on sometimes saucy and cynical universes, sometimes apocalyptic and fantastic. An invitation to get lost in strange and imaginary worlds, for our greatest pleasure.
