After the inauguration of the Musée cantonal des Beaux-arts in 2019, the Musée de l'Élysée (photography) and the mudac (design) will be inaugurated at PLATEFORME 10 in 2022, creating a new art district with a surface area of 25,000m2 in the city center. PLATEFORME 10's mission is to awaken and broaden the curiosity of all audiences by offering them a space for discovery, discussion, learning, experimentation, wonder, but also leisure and contemplation.
The meeting of the Musée cantonal des Beaux-arts (MCBA), the Musée de l'Élysée and the mudac, will form a new art district located a stone's throw from Lausanne train station. A new urban space, PLATEFORME 10 will be a welcoming place to live and open to all audiences, with the aim of going beyond the specific disciplines of each of its institutions in order to create emulation.
Now on the edge of an art district, the Musée cantonal des Beaux-arts (MCBA) aims to be an open place, a forum that encourages exchanges between visitors, artists and the institution. In addition to the permanent presentation of the collection, the MCBA offers nearly ten temporary exhibitions per year, thematic or monographic: ancient and modern art, international contemporary art and local emerging scene. It hosts the Toms Pauli and Félix Vallotton foundations.
Recognized internationally, the Musée de l'Élysée is one of the most important museums entirely devoted to photography. Through his innovative exhibitions, his reference publications and his events, it questions photography and makes it known to a wide audience. The future Élysée Museum building will provide it with a place in line with its ambitions to become, in the eyes of the general public and professionals alike, a reference museum in the field of photography and images.
The mudac is the only museum in French-speaking Switzerland devoted exclusively to design and contemporary applied arts. Its approach is characterized by its policy of openness and exchanges between the various disciplines of contemporary creation. The new art district that constitutes PLATEFORME 10 will allow mudac to take part in the exceptional dynamic created by the meeting of three museums dedicated to visual creation, to carry out large-scale projects including large-scale pieces, as well as to develop in situ projects.
In addition to the three museums, the rehabilitation of the arcades, the development of a soft mobility route embellished with a didactic botanical trail, and the opening of several places to eat will aim to develop a real multidisciplinary cultural platform for all.
The first phase of this new art district will be initiated on June 18, 2022 with the opening of an inaugural period rich in events which will run until September 25, 2022.
This will be an opportunity to discover three exhibitions that will bring together fine arts, design and photography around a common theme: Train, Zua, Treno, Tren within the MCBA, the mudac and the Musée de l'Elysée.
