The exhibition "Chercher l'or du temps : surréalisme, art naturel, art brut, art magique" is an invitation to rethink the history of artistic creation in the 20th century, by connecting the histories of surrealism, outsider art and their extensions. It proposes to go back on the way artists and intellectuals, but also self-taught creators, have redefined in depth the aesthetic catégories by freeing themselves from classifications and by looking, with a shared wonder, natural objects, works of artists and anonymous.
Result of an important research process, the exhibition is the opportunity to study, through 300 pieces and documents, the points of intellectual, artistic, geographical and political convergence of the actors and actresses of surrealism as defined by André Breton in 1924 and of the art brut invented by Jean Dubuffet in 1945, without being limited to these major personalities.
