The Centre des monuments nationaux and The Al Thani Collection Foundation are pleased to announce the opening of the galleries dedicated to showing artworks from The Al Thani Collection on 18th November 2021. The exhibition – Treasures of the Al Thani Collection – will showcase a rich diversity of approximately 120 artworks drawn from across the Collection, bringing together exceptional works of art from antiquity to the 19th century. Celebrating the unifying force of art across cultures, it will juxtapose superlative works of art from different civilisations, sharing with the public high points of creative expression across periods and geographies.

The exhibition will take place across four galleries in a space which formerly served as the tapestry storerooms for the French Royal collections. The purpose-built galleries have been designed by ATTA, a Paris-based architecture practice led by Tsuyoshi Tane.

The Al Thani Collection contains an exceptional array of artworks spanning the ancient world to the present day. Encyclopaedic in its approach, and representing a diverse range of cultures and civilisations, this extraordinary collection celebrates creativity and the universal power of art through the ages.

The Collection is promoted by The Al Thani Collection Foundation, a private non-profit organisation whose core mission is to advance and promote art and culture. This objective is principally delivered through public art initiatives including sponsorships, museum projects, the staging of exhibitions, and academic publications, honouring artistic achievement across a rich diversity of cultures. Prior to the opening of the galleries at the Hôtel de la Marine, the Collection has been shared through temporary exhibitions and loans at museums around the world.
