Internationally known for her photographs of works taken in their exhibition context, the American artist Louise Lawler holds a central place in the history of the Yvon Lambert gallery and then in that of the Avignon institution that houses the collection. For the first time in its history, the Lambert Collection is exhibiting all 21 photographs and 6 installations present in the permanent collection held in the Papal City.
While this unique ensemble begins with some of the first photographs from the early 1980s, it continues with a series of etched glasses presented on shelves and ends with a series of photographs taken in the very spaces of the Collection Lambert and in the collector's house, in the aftermath of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York, while Louise Lawler is stranded on French territory.
In a gesture in which the political is mixed with the sensitive - undoubtedly - the artist shows how the different contexts of presentation or installation devices have a deafening influence on our understanding of the works we encounter.
