LES RENCONTRES D’ARLES 2014 - "PARADE"
7 July – 21 September 2014
Opening week from 7 to 13 July
The 45th Rencontres d’Arles marked by friendship and loyalty
As the Rencontres are reaching a incomparable audience (the greatest attendance was attained in 2013 with almost 100 000 visitors) and their universal fame is definitively installed, we are assisting to the end of an era with the departure of François Hébel, who, during his 12 years as president of the festival, managed rebuild the Rencontres’ from its degraded status.
François Hébel has chosen to leave his post in a theatrical manner, offering a last parade around and with his many photographer friends who have contributed to the festival’s success. Raymond Depardon, Christian Lacroix, Martin Parr, Lucien Clergue, Erik Kessels, Bill Hunt, Joan Fontcuberta, Luce Lebart will all come to Arles in 2014 with new propositions.
The second part of the programme is made of original propositions of artists and curators who have never been to the Rencontres d’Arles before. Among them : David Bailey, Vik Muniz, Patrick Swirc, Artur Walter, Daile Kaplan, the five curators and ten nominees of the Discovery price, and many others, such as the actor Vincent Perez, whose first passion was photography.
