Palais de Tokyo offers Camille Henrot (born in Paris in 1978, lives in New York) its entire exhibition space in autumn 2017 for the third edition of its “carte blanche” series, which was inaugurated in 2013 by Philippe Parreno and continued with Tino Sehgal in 2016. Winner of the Silver Lion at the 55th Venice Biennale (2013) as well as the Nam June Paik (2014) and Edward Munch (2015) Awards, the French artist’s “carte blanche” reveals her diverse output and the wide ranging interests incorporated in her work.
At Palais de Tokyo, Henrot brings together works focused on the notion of dependency. Through this lens she considers aspects of the human condition, on an intimate level, in affective or sexual relationships for example, and on a collective level, in relationships of social, economic, cultural or ideological domination. Henrot draws on the organizing structure of the week, which corresponds to our desires and frustrations, to organize this major exhibition. Beginning with Monday, each part of the exhibition concentrates on a day of the week and the moods, planets, symbols and activities associated with them.
